Old Time Radio Still Lots of Fun Online

Old time radio shows used to be a favorite pastime of many families across the United States, and for good reason. There were great mystery shows, music, talk shows and more that were all delivered free of charge over the radio waves. Those days are not over, contrary to what some may believe-the same exact entertainment can still be found right online. Using the internet you can get the same advantages and fun from old time radio style shows without the fuss of dealing with an old bulky radio or having limited choices of stations to choose from. If you want to learn more about finding great old radio shows online then read on.

Some of the most classic shows from the 1930's and onwards were old time radio mystery shows. These were extremely popular and at the height of their popularity they could be found virtually on every station. This is the most commonly sought after variety when people go looking online and there are actually websites that specialize in delivering genuine, original shows that feature some of the most popular mystery shows. Using nothing more than your internet connection and one of these web services you can stream or download the audio and play it over your speakers.

If you're familiar with using Apple's iTunes another great option is to go with an "old time" style podcast that can be synced to your computer and iPod, iPad or iPhone to play on the go wherever you are. From there you can plug in speakers or headphones and set up your very own "radio" regardless of where you travel to. This is an excellent option for anyone who wants to bring the classic entertainment of old time radio shows to their relatives and friends when traveling or on vacation.

If you want to travel back in time and have the same experience that people in the 1930's, 40's and 50's got to have with their mystery shows and old time broadcasts then going online is hands down the best way to go. Keep in mind many of the available sites use actual original recordings and clips so there is often a nominal subscription fee to help preserve the value of these audio clips. For anyone interested in hearing radio-broadcasts the way they used to be then using the power of the internet is the best way to go.

Satellite Radio Quality, Content And Availability

Satellite radio has certainly taken off. It is extremely popular for two or three main reasons such as quality, content and availability. In the perspective of satellite radio, quality refers to the quality of sound that is capable of being reproduced by the equipment because of the signal; content refers to the kinds of programmes being broadcast by the various radio channels or stations and availability refers to the footprint or coverage of the satellite, that is how much area of land receives the signal from the satellite.

All these comparisons are made with terrestrial radio broadcasts naturally. For instance, we all know that standard AM or FM stations vary hugely in quality, the content can be heavily interspersed with advertising, jingles and mindless chatter and coverage is normally only on a very localized basis.

The two big players in the American satellite radio market are of course Sirius and XM and each one is trying to out do the other in these three fields

Normally, subscription radio produces a quality of sound which is equivalent to CD quality. This is extremely high, particularly if you use decent quality equipment to replay the signal received. If you merely replay subscription radio through tinny, ancient, blown speakers, then you will scarcely benefit from this boost in quality at all.

Quality, content and coverage have all played a part in increasing the popularity of subscription radio, but it is probably content which has played the biggest part.

You may be wondering why anyone would want to shell out for subscription radio, when there is so much free radio around. It is a fair point, but in fact, similarities can be made with cable TV and broadcast television. Why do people pay for that? Is it the sound quality? Or the content? Or what? A lot of cable TV is rubbish too. Sports coverage, possibly.

At least the majority of satellite radio is free of advertising. That has to be worth a couple dollars a month and it is in fact a big selling point. Many people cite the lack of advertising as one of their foremost reasons for switching to satellite radio.

It is probable that all big league sports games will move to subscription only over the next few years. This will without doubt be carried out with the utilization of satellite radio. American football, soccer, baseball, basketball will all either get their own nationwide channels or be bundled with other channels

People are bored with with the amount of advertising on AM and FM radio, but at the end of the day, the most important reason whether to get satellite radio or not for the majority of people rests on content not even so much on the quality of the sound. If sport is taken off terrestrial radio and only available on satellite radio, then people, particularly men, will switch to satellite radio, which is precisely what happened with cable and satellite television.

Satellite Radio: How Much Does It Cost?

Satellite radio is extremely popular these days and it is increasing in popularity more and more every day. If you are not certain what satellite radio is, you can look at it like cable or satellite TV. In essence, satellite radio is a subscription only service. It has a colossal assortment of radio stations that are not accessible on the ordinary AM or FM services.

If you are asking yourself how much satellite radio costs, then the answer is the annoying one: it depends. It depends, because there are several variables, such as the apparatus itself, installation fees and monthly fees. Equipment from the countless manufacturers varies a lot as well.

For instance, Bose is more expensive than a Chinese item from Walmart. Installation charges vary depending on where you live and who you use and the monthly fee will depend on which package or bundle you choose. So, unfortunately, the answer is: it depends.

There is also a one-off 'activation fee'. This costs about $15 if you do it by phone and about $5 if you do it over the Internet. However, the push is on to get you signed up, so there are frequently promotions on doing away with this ridiculous rip-off fee. As if you will not be paying enough in monthly charges for the rest of your life!

If you want to install satellite radio in your car, you have two alternatives, if your existing radio is not 'satellite ready'. You can either buy a new car stereo that is 'satellite ready' or you can purchase a satellite signal receiver and decoder unit and plug it into your present radio. This decoder can be hidden away under the driver's seat or stashed in the boot of the car. You will also need a new antenna on the roof.

Costs differ outrageously, but let's average it out at $600 for a decent, new, satellite-enabled, ready to go stereo fitted and working or $350 for a cheap system using your own radio, but also ready to receive satellite broadcasts. So, you could say, on average, for about $500 you can be listening to satellite broadcasts.

However, just as with laptop computer prices, demand causes downward pressure on prices and by the time you read this article, the price could have halved. Let's hope so.

Portable satellite radio receivers can be a bit cheaper, mostly because there are no installation fees and come out at around $400.

Then there are the monthly subscription fees. As I said above, this depends on the package you select. The average charge is $10-$15 a month, but specific channels can be extra. For instance, you could receive the Playboy channel for free at one time, but the normal cost is $2.95 per month.

Sport can cost more, especially for a finals match. Sometimes, you can get a discount for paying annually and Sirius even has a one-off, lifetime option at $500. Perhaps the best thing to do is keep an eye on the promotional deals and be ready to pounce quickly when a suitable one comes up.

Wireless Headphones For Working Out

How often have you been pumping weights and have been worried about the cord to your headphones getting in the way or being some kind of hazard. Just think, if could be pretty dangerous if your cord were to catch while doing curls and it yanked the dumbbell out of your hands nearly crushing your feet. It wouldn't be fun.

Wireless Headphones for working out is the answer. Wireless technology these days is getting cheaper and cheaper and that means making the switch to wireless headphones is pretty easy.

There are two technologies that you should consider as you shop for headphones especially if you're going to be working out with these: Bluetooth and RF.

Bluetooth technology in reality is just an advanced, or rather, more uncommon version of RF technology. Its perfect for communicating between small devices and fast speeds. And so it is perfect for wireless headphones that you use for working out. You'll never be too far from the transmitter like you would be if you wanted to get a set of headphones to watch Movies or something.

The most common and cheapest of all wireless technologies is RF (Radio Frequency), It uses basic radio frequencies to deliver the music to your headphones. The transmitter modulates it then the headphones demodulate it so you can hear it in both sides.

Wireless headphones for working out are perfect because they not only allow you to be safer but they, just like other headphones, let you get in your groove and burn some serious calories!

OUCH-KABOOBLE! (As Austin Powers says) - Alberto Martinez - Weston, Fl USA
I guess this radio was designed by a grey alien because it HURTS MY EARS! OUCHKABOOBLE!!!!!
I am a human last I checked and these alien peripherals just plain hurt!

Also, the reception plain stinks, I use it around the house with an FM transmitter hooked up to my computer which allows me to walk around and listen to my favorite radio shows. For that the reception is good, but then again, I'm the broadcasting station.

The ear pieces have to go! or sell them in Beta Reticuli.
I MISS MY HM55 which broke after 5 years of use. Why isn't Sony making them any more? This is total junk!

If I wanted ear pain I'd listen to John Tesh - Gary Collard - Dallas, TX
One star, only because zero is not a selection.

Have to agree with the others who criticized this product. After removing it from the packaging I never even made it to the point of putting in a battery to listen. I put it on and tried adjusting the ear pieces over and over, then took a break and tried it again, and I never got anything but pain no matter the setting. And the pain persisted for an hour or two afterwards, it was as if somebody had held me down and forced something unpleasant into my ear canals with a bit of force. Bottom line, this radio is so poorly designed that I never made it to the point of putting in a battery and turning it on before packing it back into the packaging and sack to return it tomorrow.

I previously had a Sony headphone radio, SRF-HM55, that was an excellent product. Why they decided that comfort not only does not matter, but that they should strive for the least comfortable design possible, is beyond me. I will be looking to other companies for my small electronics needs in the future, if they can screw up something this simple so badly I shudder to think what else they have on the market.

Sony headset - Kenneth Yang - Flushing, NY USA
This has to be one of the worse products ever. How can any normal person use this product without PAIN when wearing it? Its got to be one of the worse engineered products. The ear piece just makes no sense. Save your money and buy a more traditional headset with a comfortable ear piece.

Sony SRFH4 Analog Tuning AM / FM Headphone Radio

Call me "crazy," but I bought one for myself after seeing my friend Mike wear it. He wears it everywhere...Old Town, nightclubs, the mall, Spangles, riding his scooter, etc. This thing is, shall we say, a "chick magnet." Put this baby on, wear a pair of flip-up shades, and you're smoove and popular as a toddler in a nursing home. All the guys get jealous. People will want to have their pictures taken with you. It even goes great while driving with a 1985 Trans-Camaro. This is the Retro fo' Shizzle.
